Armstrong Williams
Stance: Writing newspaper columns supporting Bush's "Leave No Child Behind" Act

Vice: Was secretly paid $240,000 by U.S. Department of Education to write the columns, at taxpayer expense (Tom Hamburger, Nick Anderson and T. Christian Miller, Los Angeles Times, January 8, 2005)

Bob Woodward
Stance: Muckraker
who brings down presidents

Vice: Concealed for 17 months the fact that a Bush administration official (whom he still refuses to name) leaked CIA agent Valerie Plame's identify to him before Scooter Libby named her to N.Y. Times (Tim Rutten, Los Angeles Times, November 19, 2005)

Latest: Woodward redeems himself with his new book, State of Denial. He told Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes that Bush has told Republican leaders that he won't pull out of Iraq even if no one supports him but Laura and Barney. "Laura is the First Lady; Barney is his dog," Woodward explained.

Judith Miller
Stance: 1st Amendment
Crusader who refused to
name White House leaker to grand jury

Vice: Helped White
House suppress free
speech by concealing Scooter Libby's smearing of Iraq whistle blower Joseph Wilson

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, announcing indictment of Cheney's chief of staff Libby, said, "If we weren't delayed by reporters who refused to testify before the grand jury, we would have been here in October 2004 instead of October
2005."

"Had that been the case, John Kerry probably would be president of the United States today,"
wrote Robert Scheer. "Surely a sufficient number of swing voters in the very tight race would have been outraged to learn weeks before the 2004 election that, according to this indictment, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff--a key member of the White House team that made the fraudulent case for invading Iraq--"did knowingly and corruptly endeavor to influence, obstruct and impede the due administration of justice." (Robert Scheer, Los Angeles Times, November 1, 2005)

Jeff Gannon
AKA James Guckert
Stance: Former member of elite White House Press Corps

Vice: Gannon caught the interest of other White House reporters with his softball questions to Bush like, "How can you work with Democrats who are so divorced from reality?" Upon investigation, Gannon (an alias) was found to represent no legitimate media organization. He avoided an FBI background check by obtaining temporary press passes on a daily basis with White House help. Then- Press Secretary Scott McClellan denied accusations that Gannon was a deliberate plant.

In a strange twist even for Washington, Gannon wrote anti- gay screeds and gay-baited John Kerry (possibly the first "gay president," he said in one of his leading questions during a press conference). Yet Gannon himself was discovered to own gay web sites with military hustler themes, and appeared naked on-line offering his escort services for $200 an hour. (Ann Rostow, TXT Newsmagazine, March, 2005)
